About Mr Tim de Klerk
Mr Tim de Klerk is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and the Clinical Lead for Cataract Services at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, the UK's second largest specialist eye hospital. He specialises in cataract surgery and refractive lens surgery. As clinical lead, he is responsible for dealing with the most complex and difficult cataract cases on a regular basis. Mr de Klerk also sees private patients at The Alexandra Hospital. He is able to offer a variety of lens options, and during the treatment, patients can choose between local anaesthetic, local anaesthetic with some sedation, and general anaesthetic. Mr de Klerk always ensures to provide his patients with personalised, honest, and ethical advice based on the most recent scientific research. When surgical treatment is needed, he aims for excellence and does everything possible to minimise the risks involved. He considers himself fortunate to work in a field of medicine that is able to enhance people's lives dramatically. He is actively involved in research and has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented his work internationally at conferences in the USA and Australia. He is also directly responsible for the training of overseas and UK trainee surgeons. Mr de Klerk is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
