About Mr Simon Lambert

Mr Simon Lambert is a Consultant Surgeon with a specialism in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Trauma Surgery. He is currently based at HCA Healthcare UK. He holds Honorary posts at University College London Hospital Foundation Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. His areas of interest include shoulder and elbow joint replacement; shoulder and elbow revision replacement; rotator cuff disease, including muscle transfers; shoulder and elbow instability; and fractures and the sequelae of fractures of the shoulder girdle (scapula, clavicle and acromioclavicular joint) and shoulder joint, arm (humerus) and elbow. Mr Lambert qualified in Medicine at University of London, Charing Cross Medical School, in 1984 with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees, and an intercalated BSc in Anatomy. Subsequently, he completed an extensive rotational programme in Orthopaedics in London along with Fellowships in Switzerland. He was appointed consultant in 1996 at the University Hospital of Southampton and received the prestigious North American Travelling Fellowship of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow in 1998. Mr Lambert was appointed to the staff of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hsopital in 2001, and then to University College London Hospital in 2017. Mr Lambert chairs and is board member of several committees of the AO Foundation, with particular roles in implant design, outcomes studies, educational programmes (including the development of a biomechanics tutor application), and research into fracture healing. Mr Lambert continues to pursue an active research programme in instrumented elbow replacement, the anatomy of pain in the shoulder, the anatomy of the inneration of the rotator cuff (conducted in the University of Cambridge), and the anatomy of the periclavicular space. He was recently the senior author of a multicentre international randomised controlled trial concerning aspects of shoulder replacement. He has co-authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, is an examiner for PhD theses, teaches on many fracture courses and co-chairs a highly regarded annual shoulder fracture arthroplasty course for the AO Foundation, among others. He has received many awards including regional training programme Trainer of the Year in Wessex, Stanmore and UCL. More recently he and his team were awarded the AO Foundation Innovation Award for their work on the development of a novel fixation system for fractures of the clavicle. Mr Lambert was elected to the prestigious role of Visiting Professor to the Ganga Medical Cemtre and Hospital, in Coimbatore, India in June 2025. He has been invited to present key note lectures at several international conferences this year and in 2026. He has been invited as Visiting Professor to the annual scientific meeting of the combined federation of South American orthopaedic societies in October 2026.
