Mr Shashidhar Irukulla is a Consultant Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with extensive experience in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery. He undertakes private practice in Windsor, Chertsey and Farnham, and holds an NHS post as Senior Bariatric Surgeon at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Irukulla qualified in medicine (MBBS) from Gulbarga University in 1992. He subsequently completed specialist surgical training in the UK & Australia, including dedicated bariatric training at St George’s Hospital. His training also includes advanced fellowships at John Hunter Hospital and further experience through the South West Thames rotation. Over the past decade, he has developed a focused practice in the management of morbid obesity, supported by additional international training at recognised bariatric centres in Germany, Belgium and France.

His clinical practice centres on minimally invasive upper gastrointestinal, general and bariatric procedures, including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, with experience of performing over 1,000 bariatric operations. He also undertakes advanced endoscopic procedures and has developed a novel approach to endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. Within the NHS, he established an oesophageal manometry and pH monitoring service at St Peter’s Hospital to support the investigation of complex reflux disease. He has held very senior clinical leadership roles at the trust. He is currently working as a Deputy Chief Medical Officer ( Planned Care).

Mr Irukulla works within a dedicated multidisciplinary bariatric team, including dietitians, bariatric nurse specialists and specialist anaesthetists, providing structured pre- and post-operative care. His practice integrates surgical treatment with long-term medical and lifestyle management for gastrointestinal and weight-related conditions.
