Mr Hampton qualified from St Thomas' Hospital Medical School in 1988 he then undertook basic surgical training on the Northwick Park Hospital Surgical Rotation, followed by higher surgical training on the St Mary's Hospital Orthopaedic rotation, working at St Mary's Wexham Park, Royal Berkshire, Northwick Park, Chelsea and Westminster and Kingston Hospitals. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Kingston Hospital Trust in 2002 and has worked at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre in Epsom since it opened in 2004.

Richard's particular area of expertise is in hip replacement surgery (including complex primary and revision procedures) and knee replacement surgery. He can advise and treat most conditions related to the hip and knee, including arthritis, fractures, tendinopathies, bursitis, cartilage tears, loose bodies, impingement and painful hip replacements.
