About Mr Paul Thiruchelvam
Mr Paul Thiruchelvam is a Consultant Breast Surgeon practising at Imperial College NHS Trust in London. As an oncoplastic breast surgeon, his specialist interests are the treatment of breast cancer, breast cancer risk reduction surgery, familial breast cancer, partial breast reconstruction and breast cancer-related lymphodema. He also has an interest in benign breast disease. Mr Thiruchelvam obtained his medical degree from Imperial College London in 2000. He underwent his surgical training at a number of specialist breast units in London hospitals including The Royal Marsden, North West Thames and Imperial College. His surgical training was completed during his fellowship at the National Oncoplastic Group at the Nottingham Breast Institute. During this time, he conducted research mapping the anatomy of chest wall perforators flaps in breast reconstruction. He also completed a PhD in Molecular Oncology at Imperial College London in 2010. Mr Thiruchelvam has also completed travelling fellowships to world-class hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic and the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the USA. In 2016, he was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship, during which he travelled to Japan, the USA, and the Netherlands to study specialist breast cancer treatment techniques. He is a member of the expert panel on breast cancer-related lymphoedema and helped to compile the American Society of Breast Surgeons' best practice guidelines. Away from the clinic, he enjoys rugby and travelling.
