About

I have been a consultant vascular surgeon for the last 20+ years based in the Thames Valley. Over this time I have developed a comprehensive expertise in vascular surgery, addressing conditions such as varicose veins, aneurysms, deep vein thrombosis, carotid disease and peripheral vascular disease. I have also developed a subspecialty interst in carotid body tumours.

After  my medical degree at the University of Birmingham in 1991, I undertook basic surgical training and research at St Mary’s Hospital in London, before completing higher surgical training within the Oxford Deanery. First appointed as a consultant in Bucks NHS Trust in 2003,  I was subsequently appointed to Oxford Univeristy Hospital in 2014 as part of the well established Thames Valley Vascular Network

Beyond my clinical practice, I have publlished research, exploring areas such as the family history of aortic aneurysms, patterns of varicose vein recurrence, and postoperative infections, but this is not a major interest. I have committed more time to surgical education first as Director of Medical education in Bucks then co-writing the national core surgical curriculum and finally ending up as head of the Oxford Deanery Postgraduate School of Surgery for five years. Currently I am workforce lead for the Specialty Advisory Council  and an elected board member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland (VSGBI).

I also try and ski with my family whenever I can.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
