About

Mr Abbassi-Ghadi is a Consultant Laparoscopic/Robotic Gastrointestinal Surgeon based in Guildford at BMI Mount Alvernia, Nuffield Health and Royal Surrey County Hospitals. He specialises in the treatment, diagnosis and management of  upper gastrointestinal (oesophagus and stomach) disorders, including conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and upper gastro-intestinal cancer. In addition, his other surgical interests include hernia repair, gallstones, diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopy, primary and revisional anti-reflux surgery, motility disorders of the oesophagus, and weight loss surgery.

Mr Abbassi-Ghadi completed his medical degree at The University of Nottingham, and then went on to complete his specialist surgical training in London, where he developed and extensive experience in advanced operating techniques, including minimal access surgery. On completion of his training, he was awarded the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland travelling Scholarship to partake in a clinical fellowship at the National Cancer Centre in Seoul, Korea; which allowed him to add to his skillset further as well as broaden his scope of practice.

In addition to his other accolades and busy practice, in 2015, he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London for his research into oesophageal cancer and has published in leading journals such as Cancer Research, Cancer Discovery, and Advanced Materials. He is a passionate educator and Honorary Reader at the University of Surrey, co-supervising a PhD project investigating the role of exercise in tumour biology, which is funded by the World Cancer Research Fund. Previous projects investigating the effects of oncolytic viruses and immunotherapy on oesophageal cancer have been funded by The Medical Research Council, Royal College of Surgeons and the Mason Medical Research Foundation, . He is a keen educationalist and regularly teaches Advanced Trauma Life Support and gives invited lectures to surgical trainees in the South East of England.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
