Mr Michael Wyatt is a Senior Vascular/Endovascular Consultant Surgeon who works at the Newcastle Nuffield Hospital. He sees patients with all aspects of vascular disease, arranges for investigations/advice and offers a varicose/thread vein interventional service for both insured and self-pay patients. He is an experienced Consultant Appraiser for both the NHS and in the private sector for individual doctor GMC revalidation to ensure the maintenance of patient safety at all times. He is also a longstanding Senior Clinical Member of the Newcastle and North Tyneside Research Ethics Committees.
He qualified from Newcastle University and trained in Glasgow, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth and London before being appointed as a Consultant at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1994. He was head of department for 8 years and instigated the development of a major UK complex aortic programme at the Northern Vascular Centre.
Mr Wyatt has been Secretary/President of the Vascular Society of Great Britian and Ireland, where he led the development of the new specialty of Vascular Surgery. He was President of the Endovascular Forum and the North of England Surgical Society and is widely published in vascular surgery.
He continues to attend/present at major international vascular meetings, was a member of the Executive Committee of the British Journal of Surgery, is Senior Editor of SURGERY journal and referees for several other international medical journals. He has edited several medical textbooks including the recent 'Oxford Textbook of the Fundamentals of Surgery'.
Mr Wyatt is the QA/CME Lead for the Vascular Division of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and examines for the European Board of Vascular Surgery and for the UK Vascular FRCS examination. He is a senior member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England Quality Assurance Operational Group (QAOG) and accredits and determines CPD points for the RCSE Research Fellowships, external courses, hospitals and universities in both the UK and abroad.
Mr Wyatt also runs a busy medico-legal practice covering all aspects of vascular disease. He provides expert advice for the NHS and the Ombudsman in England, Scotland and Wales and is instructed to prepare clinical negligence and personal injury reports by solicitors representing both Claimants and Defendants. He sees Claimants from across the UK in clinics at the Nuffield Hospital (Newcastle), Premier Health (Darras Hall) and in Edinburgh, Leeds and Barnsley and has attended Court as an Expert Witness on several occasions.
