Mr
Mr Michael Woodruff
Orthopaedic Surgery
About
He has trained under some of the top Hand Surgeons both in the UK and overseas. He does not practice in the generality of orthopaedic surgery because he specialises in Hand and Wrist Surgery. His sub-specialist training in Hand and Wrist surgery has included Fellowships at Wrightington hospital with Professor J Stanley, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham with Professor T Davis, past Editor of the British and European Journal of Hand Surgery and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, with Professor J Jupiter, Chief of Hand Surgery and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, as well as Mr D Campbell, Consultant Hand Surgeon at St James University Hospital and past Chair of the AO International Hand Group.
In March 2006, Mr Woodruff returned to Lancashire following his appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon with The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He soon introduced a regional anaesthetic-based, wide-awake hand and wrist surgery service to both his NHS and Private practices. This allows patients to undergo their surgery as a Day Case with minimal disruption to their weekly routine.
Mr Woodruff is a member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and Chair of the Cumbria and Lancashire Association for Surgery of the Hand. He has a professional interest in Medical Education. Recently, Mr Woodruff completed three years on the Education and Training Committee for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and he is a Regional Surgical Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as the Chair of the Regional Trauma and Orthopaedic Specialist Training Committee.
In addition to this Mr Woodruff is an Intercollegiate examiner for the MRCS and FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic) examinations, an Examiner for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand Diploma and an Examiner for the University of Manchester Medical School.
In 2011 Mr Woodruff received the North West Orthopaedic Trainees Association Trainer of the Year award. He was also nominated for this award again in 2019.
Mr Woodruff is a keen sportsman and played representative cricket for his county as a teenager. He has remained in the game as a qualified coach, coaching locally and at representative level. He is also learning to play the Classical Guitar, making slow progress, which at least his dog seems to appreciate!
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
