I have been a Consultant
General and Gastro-intestinal Surgeon for 26 years. I specialise in Upper
Gastrointestinal Surgery and I have extensive experience of laparoscopic
(keyhole) techniques.
My special interests include:
- Surgery for gallstone disease
(cholecystectomy), including surgical treatment of common bile duct stones.
- Investigation of indigestion
/ upper abdominal pain. I perform diagnostic gastroscopy on a regular basis.
- Investigation and surgical treatment of gastro-oesophageal
reflux. Investigation may include endoscopy, oesophageal manometry and 24 hour
oesophageal pH studies. I perform surgical treatment (anti-reflux surgery /
fundoplication) in appropriate cases. I also carry out endoscopic assessment of
Barrett's oesophagus.
- Investigation and management of swallowing
difficulties and surgical treatment of oesophageal motility disorders such as
cardial achalasia (Heller's myotomy).
- Hernia surgery, both laparoscopic and open,
including surgery for inguinal, femoral, umbilical and ventral hernias.
- Surgery in young people (16 years and over) eg
herniotomy, cholecystectomy, circumcision.
- Skin and subcutaneous lump excision.
- Ingrowing toe nail surgery.
I participate in providing Surgical Education
for Surgical Trainees and I am an Appraiser for Surgical Colleagues.
