About Mr Ismail Mallick
Mr Ismail Mallick is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon. His NHS practice is based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, and he also consults privately at the Bournemouth Nuffield Hospital. He trained in General and Colorectal Surgery in Yorkshire and Humberside and went on to complete a PhD at University College London, where his thesis investigated ischaemia reperfusion injury of the intestine and strategies to prevent it. Following this, Mr Mallick undertook advanced colorectal surgical fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, one of the world’s leading centres for colorectal surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant in Bournemouth in 2015, where he has since developed his expertise and pioneered new surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes. He is also a JAG-accredited endoscopist and trainer. His clinical practice covers the management of colon and rectal cancer, anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, coloproctological conditions such as fissure, fistula, pilonidal sinus and haemorrhoids, and pelvic floor problems including rectal prolapse. He also carries out hernia repairs and offers colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy. Alongside his surgical commitments, Mr Mallick plays a major role in education and research. He is Lead for teaching surgery to final year MBBS students from Southampton University at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and regularly teaches at the FRCS Christie Course in Manchester. He is an examiner for the European Board of Surgery in Colon and Rectal Surgery and Clinical Lead for Audit and Quality Assurance in Surgery at Bournemouth. He was recently appointed Visiting Faculty at Bournemouth University. His research has focused on intestinal microcirculation in ischaemia reperfusion injury, minimally invasive treatments for rectal prolapse, and painless haemorrhoidectomy. He has published around 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is frequently invited to speak at national and international meetings. Mr Mallick is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons.
