About

Ian Loftus is a Consultant and Professor in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and is one of the leading aortic surgeons in the UK.

After completing his medical training with a distinction in surgery, he went on to train in vascular surgery in Leicester. In 2004 he took up his consultancy post at St Georges Hospital in London to help expand their vascular and endovascular practice. He was appointed as a Professor in Vascular Surgery at St Georges University in 2014.

Professor Loftus is past President of both major national vascular societies, the Vascular Society of Great Britain and the British Society for Endovascular Therapy. He is the Director of the Regional Aneurysm Screening Programme and past Clinical Tutor for Critical Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He chaired the National Vascular Committee for Audit and Quality Improvement and was the National Lead for Revalidation in Vascular Surgery. He is also a Council Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Vice Chair fo the national vascular surgery clincial reference group. He was involved with the national quality improvement programme (QIP) for vascular surgery, and was the Lead for London Aneurysm QIP, and Department of Health working party on peri-operative care. Professor Loftus is actively involved in clinical and scientific research into vascular disease. He has published over 300 papers and authored numerous book chapters relating to vascular and venous disease.
