About Mr Bart Decadt
Mr Decadt finished his medical training in Belgium and took up surgical training in South Africa and Manchester. He completed a MD research degree (UEA, Norwich) on Evidence Based Laparoscopic Surgery. His (world first) trial confirmed that patients with significant acid reflux obtain a higher quality of life longterm with keyhole surgery (hiatus hernia repair and nissen fundoplication) compared to acid suppressing medication (PPI). Mr Decadt was appointed as Consultant Upper GI Surgeon in 2005 in Stepping Hill Hospital and as a Honorary Consultant in Central Manchester University Hospital in 2008, where he introduced laparoscopic cancer surgery for stomach and oesophagus in the North West. Mr Decadt has been an active surgeon since 33 years and has performed over 5000 laparoscopic procedures. His main interests are: 1) laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy; 2) laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 3) laparoscopic hiatus hernia repair.
