Mr Ash Alam is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a busy NHS practice at Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital, Arrowe Park Hospital, part of the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. He provides one-stop appointments that may include consultation, examination, ultrasound, and treatment in a single visit. He also has expertise in colposcopy, endometriosis, menopause, miscarriage management, sexual health, urogynaecology, and menstrual disorders. He offers both medical and surgical treatments and is trained in the full range of general gynaecological procedures including hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, dilatation and curettage, hysterectomy, ovarian cyst removal, vaginal repair, fibroid treatment, and endometrial ablation. He promotes the use of modern procedures, such as endometrial ablation for heavy periods, as an alternative to hysterectomy, and some procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic.
His clinical services also include management of vaginal pain and painful sex (dyspareunia), contraception, vulval biopsy, labial reduction surgery, early pregnancy ultrasound, transvaginal scans, cervical smears and biopsy, endometrial biopsy, management of prolapse, and outpatient hysteroscopy. He works with a multidisciplinary team where required, including psychosexual therapists and urologists through the Sexual Wellbeing Clinic. He also provides support for patients considering termination of pregnancy, with access to counselling and ultrasound where necessary.
