Mr. Andrew Baldwin is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with dual qualifications in dentistry and medicine, having graduated in Dentistry from Liverpool in 1983 and in Medicine and Surgery from Manchester in 1994. He holds fellowships from both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh and completed higher surgical training in the North West region before his appointment as a consultant in 2003.
His practice covers the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including the removal of wisdom teeth, buried roots, and jaw cysts; the management of oral lesions, neck lumps, jaw and facial pain, facial trauma, and oral medicine. He has particular expertise in head and neck cancer with reconstructive surgery, salivary gland disease, and dental implant placement.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr. Baldwin has held significant NHS leadership roles. He led the head and neck oncology service at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust from 2004 to 2014 and was part of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire head and neck cancer pathway board. He went on to serve as Clinical Director for the Head and Neck service, covering maxillofacial surgery, ENT surgery, and plastic surgery (2014–2017), and as Divisional Clinical Director for the surgical division at North Manchester General Hospital (2017–2022).
Nationally, he has been an elected member of the Council of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (2012–2015), chaired the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Surgical Specialty Board of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2017–2022), and currently serves as an elected member of its Dental Council (2020–2025).
Mr. Baldwin teaches both postgraduate trainees and undergraduate medical and dental students at the University of Manchester, delivering clinical teaching on wards and in theatres, as well as formal lectures and tutorials. He also examines for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh nationally and internationally, and previously served as Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2007–2015), supporting surgical trainees and upholding national standards in consultant appointments.
Widely respected in his field, he is frequently invited to lecture at major national and international conferences.
