About

Mr. Michael Mullen is a UK and internationally trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2000, Mr. Mullen undertook his orthopaedic training in the West of Scotland. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2011. Following his surgical training, Mr. Mullen further developed his skills through international fellowships. He secured the prestigious Melbourne Knee Fellowship, which provided comprehensive training in all aspects of knee surgery. He then completed a fellowship in trauma surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital Major Trauma Centre, gaining expertise in complex lower limb trauma.

In 2014, Mr. Mullen was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow, before moving to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in 2015, where he now serves as a Specialist Knee and Trauma Surgeon.

Mr. Mullen performs a wide range of knee surgeries, including primary and complex total knee replacements, partial knee replacements, revision knee replacements, arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery, ligament reconstruction, and patellar stabilisation procedures.

He adopts a holistic approach to treatment, considering both rehabilitation-based and surgical options. Mr. Mullen is committed to providing individualised, evidence-based treatments for knee conditions, with a focus on patient-centred decision-making at every stage of the patient's journey.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
