He obtained his medical degree from Monash University in 2000 and completed his specialist training in cardiology in Melbourne, followed by 3 years of cardiac electrophysiology training in Melbourne and Canada. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2008 and received his Fellowship with the Heart Rhythm Society in 2014. He later began research surrounding arrhythmia and was awarded his MD by Monash University in 2016.
Dr Obeyesekere's clinical expertise includes catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation and device implantation (including defibrillators and biventricular pacing).
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Obeyesekere has published widely in several reputed international journals such as Heart Rhythm, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Clinical Electrophysiology and Circulation.
