Prof Manish Kiran
Orthopaedic Surgery
About
He is fellowship trained and specialises in advanced orthopaedic techniques, particularly in complex primary and revision hip replacement, unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, and complex total knee replacement. His practice also includes sports knee surgery, including arthroscopic procedures such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, cartilage regeneration techniques, and meniscal repair. He is experienced in minimally invasive surgery and performs “clipless” total hip and knee replacements, aiming to reduce infection risk, improve recovery, and enhance the overall patient experience. His approach is centred on personalised, compassionate care with a focus on achieving optimal functional outcomes.
Professor Kiran is also an established academic, with over 25 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and more than 50 invited presentations and lectures at national and international conferences. He is actively involved in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and regularly teaches on FRCS and Royal College of Surgeons courses.
He graduated from Madras Medical College in India and completed his orthopaedic training in the UK. During his postgraduate studies at the University of Dundee, he was awarded the Ian Smillie Award for Academic Excellence for his MCh (Orthopaedics). He went on to complete specialist fellowships in hip and knee arthroplasty and sports knee surgery at leading centres in the UK and Germany. He has previously held consultant posts at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, and is widely regarded for his clinical expertise and patient outcomes in hip and knee surgery.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
