About Mr Luke Nicholson
Mr Luke Nicholson is a highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with expertise in various areas of ophthalmology. He is particularly experienced in the treatment of diabetic macular oedema, cataract surgery, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy and central serous chorioretinopathy. Mr Nicholson holds several professional qualifications and memberships, including being a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth), MD (Res), and MBBS with Distinction. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is affiliated with esteemed organisations such as the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). In his current role, Mr Nicholson serves as the Director of the Medical Retina Service and a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is highly regarded for his expertise in medical retina and has made significant contributions to the field through his research and clinical practice. Mr Nicholson's medical training includes an MD from University College London and an MBBS with Distinction from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He has also completed the UK Ophthalmology Specialist Training, obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Throughout his career, Mr Nicholson has demonstrated a keen interest in research, particularly in retinal vascular diseases. Mr Nicholson's research has focused on retinal vein occlusion and diabetic retinopathy, and he has published numerous papers on these topics. His contributions include exploring treatment options for retinal vein occlusion and diabetic retinopathy, as well as investigating the use of retinal imaging to manage risks for future complications in retinal vascular diseases. He currently leads several national and international clinical studies in diabetic retinopathy. With his extensive experience, expertise, and dedication to advancing the field of ophthalmology, Mr Luke Nicholson is highly regarded as a skilled and respected Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon.
