Doç. Dr. Louis Alexander
Vascular Science
About
He has extensive experience working within major UK tertiary vascular centres, having previously practised at King’s College Hospital, and currently working at University Hospitals Sussex and Brighton. In addition, Louis undertakes outsourced vascular ultrasound work, including referrals from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, further reflecting his trusted expertise across leading NHS institutions.
Within his clinical practice, Louis undertakes and interprets a full range of vascular ultrasound examinations, producing detailed clinical reports that directly support diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient management. His practice spans both NHS and private healthcare settings nationwide.
Louis completed the Scientist Training Programme (STP) after an early career in biomedical sciences and laboratory medicine, including completion of the IBMS training portfolio in biochemistry. He holds a Master of Science degree with distinction in Clinical (Vascular) Science from Newcastle University. His postgraduate research focused on the effectiveness of ultrasound surveillance in pre-emptive renal transplant patients, reflecting a strong academic foundation alongside clinical expertise.
A particular area of professional interest for Louis is venous disease, especially the assessment and management of varicose veins. This interest has been further developed through his work with the UK Vein Clinic, where he contributes specialist vascular ultrasound expertise to support high-quality venous care.
Alongside clinical practice, Louis is actively involved in education, training, and professional development within vascular science. He serves as Study Day Officer for the Education Committee at the College and Society of Clinical Vascular Science, organising nationally attended study days and supporting continuing professional development for vascular scientists across the UK. He is a regular contributor to the CSVS Annual Scientific Meeting and associated workshops.
Louis is also a Clinical Skills Trainer and Quality Assurance Officer for the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme (NAAASP) and has collaborated with the Rouleaux Society, teaching vascular ultrasound skills to junior surgeons. He has been nominated for the Beryl Ashe Award for Medical Engineering and Physics in recognition of his professional contributions.
Louis continues to practise vascular ultrasound across both NHS and private clinics, combining extensive tertiary-centre experience with a patient-focused approach to deliver high-quality vascular diagnostics.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
