Dr Krishna Bhagwat is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon with over 20 years of experience in general and emergency adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. He works with both private and public patients across Melbourne’s major tertiary hospitals, including Knox Private Hospital, the Victorian Rehabilitation Centre, and Northern Private Hospital. Since 2008, he has been practising in Melbourne, following earlier experience as a cardiothoracic surgeon in leading hospitals in Mumbai, India.

His areas of special interest include general cardiac surgery, total arterial coronary artery revascularisation, and minimally invasive valve repair and replacement surgery. He also focuses on developing techniques for minimally invasive thoracic and cardiac surgery, thoracic oncology using a uniportal (keyhole) approach, and the use of newer generation transcatheter heart valves.

Dr Bhagwat completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Grant Medical College, Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai in 1997. He went on to obtain a Master of Surgery (MS General Surgery) from Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai in 2000 and a Master of Chirurgiae (M.Ch Cardiothoracic Surgery) from B. J. Medical College, Pune in 2003. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Cardiothoracic Surgery) in 2016.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Bhagwat is actively involved in education and training. He is a member of the Academy of Surgical Educators with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and serves as a Supervisor of Surgical Education and Training (SET) in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He regularly presents at medical conferences and has contributed research to international medical journals.

Dr Bhagwat is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons, the Cardio Thoracic Network, and the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons.
