About

Dr Keshav Bhattarai is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon with extensive international experience across Nepal and Australia, specialising in cardiac and thoracic surgical care, surgical training, and service development.
He completed his medical degree at Tribhuvan University, where he received several academic distinctions. He then undertook General Surgery fellowship training through the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh before progressing to specialist cardiothoracic surgical training in Sydney, Australia, including placements at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, and Liverpool Hospital Sydney under the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons pathway.
He obtained his cardiothoracic surgical fellowship in 2011 and went on to work as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at The Canberra Hospital, where he contributed to advanced cardiac surgical services. He also played a key role in developing cardiothoracic surgery services in Nepal, including work at Chitwan Medical College and Grande International Hospital.
Since 2015, Dr Bhattarai has been based in Tasmania, where he is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Royal Hobart Hospital. He also serves as a Visiting Cardiothoracic Surgeon at both Hobart Private Hospital and Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital.
In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in surgical education and training, supporting cardiothoracic surgical trainees in Tasmania and participating in selection and training processes through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons.
