She later undertook further training at the Austin Hospital and took neurology specialist training there and at Geelong Hospital. Dr Bertram has completed a number of fellowship training programmes which have given her a wealth of knowledge in movement disorders. She has also had much of her work published in medical journals including her work on the diagnosis and management of dystonia, as well as the non-motor complications of Parkinson's disease. Dr Bertram is involved in ongoing research and is also a senior lecturer at Monash University.
