Dr Joe Ramsay
Psychiatry
About
Dr Ramsay graduated in Medicine in 2011 before completing his psychiatry training at the Maudsley Hospital in London, one of the UK’s leading centres for mental health, followed by sub-specialty training in Bristol. His diverse clinical experience spans acute inpatient care, community mental health services, and liaison roles working alongside the police and government agencies.
Appointed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in 2022, Dr Ramsay now leads work assessing and treating individuals on criminal justice pathways, bringing clinical insight and compassion to complex cases. Alongside his NHS role, he is actively engaged in management, teaching, and educational initiatives, contributing to the development of psychiatry practice and supporting the next generation of clinicians.
Dr Ramsay also maintains an independent medico-legal practice, providing expert witness services to courts in both criminal and civil matters. His calm, person-centred approach ensures that every patient feels heard, supported, and guided towards recovery in a safe and respectful environment.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
