About Mr Jeremy Hoffman
Mr Jeremy Hoffman is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Corneal Surgeon at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where he leads the Corneal and Emergency Eye Services. He also holds an honorary appointment at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is an expert in managing patients with corneal and external eye diseases, including surgical procedures such as corneal transplants, complex cataract surgery, and cross-linking. He has a keen interest in ocular surface disorders including dry eyes, corneal infection, and inflammatory and allergic eye diseases. Mr Hoffman graduated from University College London Medical School in 2010 with distinction before undertaking ophthalmology specialist training in North London, working at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and the Western Eye Hospital. He undertook two years of advanced Corneal Fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, gaining advanced medical and surgical experience in managing complex external eye and corneal diseases, as well as refractive surgery. He holds the Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, as well as the Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University, which he was awarded with Commendation in 2018. Furthering his training, Mr Hoffman undertook the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 2012 and subsequently spent time practicing in rural KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa before returning to clinical training in the UK. During his PhD, he lived and worked in Nepal and Tanzania where he was undertaking clinical trials. He is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow and Clinical Trialist based at the International Centre for Eye Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is a member of the research team led by Professor Matthew Burton, working to improve eye health in low and middle-income countries, with a strong focus on corneal infections. He recently completed his PhD which investigated treatment options for fungal keratitis, involving managing multi-national trials in Nepal, Tanzania and Uganda, and is currently module co-lead for the ocular infections module of the MSc in Public Health for Eye Care. He lives with his young family in rural Buckinghamshire where he enjoys walking, cycling, and tinkering with old Land Rovers.
