Mr Iain McLaughlin-Symon

Iain McLaughlin-Symon is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising exclusively in hand and wrist surgery. He has an interest in the management of arthritis, soft tissue surgery and sports injuries including keyhole surgery and ligament repair. Iain works as a substantive NHS consultant at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and is available to see private patients at the BMI Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle and South Manchester Diagnostic centre in Stockport. With a strong belief in the importance of maintaining a practice that is at the forefront of hand and wrist surgery, Iain takes an active involvement in medical research, having worked with the Oxford Upper Limb Collaborative, the University of Central Lancashire and the Centre for Evidence-Based Hand Surgery at the University of Nottingham to develop research trials and publications. Iain has published his work in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has presented at both national and international conferences including a prize-winning podium presentation at the Wrightington Gold Medal Research day. Iain has a keen interest in medical education and has worked as an examiner for the University of Manchester and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford. He has been invited as faculty on multiple regional and national courses and takes an active involvement in the teaching and training of junior doctors including the provision of the Hand Surgery teaching module for North West orthopaedic trainees. Iain lives in South Manchester and enjoys exploring Cheshire and the Peak District with his wife and 3 children in his free time.
