Dr. med. Gero Hohlbrugger ist Professor für Urologie. Seine Forschungen konzentrieren sich auf die Bereiche Nierenphysiologie, Reproduktionsphysiologie sowie experimentelle und klinische Studien zur Funktion der unteren Harnwege. Er ist Autor zahlreicher Publikationen in diesen Bereichen.

Dr. med. Hohlbrugger schloss sein Medizinstudium 1975 an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Innsbruck ab. Anschließend absolvierte er von 1975 bis 1978 eine Facharztausbildung am Institut für Nieren- und Membranphysiologie der Universität München unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. K. Thurau. Von 1979 bis 1985 folgte eine weitere Facharztausbildung an der Universitätsklinik für Urologie in Innsbruck bei Prof. Dr. H. Marberger. 1982 wurde er mit dem Preis der Stiftung „Höchst“ der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Innsbruck ausgezeichnet. 1984 erhielt er den Förderungspreis der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Nephrologie. 1988 habilitierte er sich an der Universität Innsbruck im Fach Urologie. Seit 1992 ist er Fellow des European Board of Urology (FEBU).
