Dr. Farooq Ahmed Khan is a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist based at the Priory Wellbeing Centre in Birmingham. He specialises in providing mental health treatment to older adults and is passionate about ensuring that they receive the best possible care. Dr. Khan completed his basic medical training and qualification of MBBS in India in 1999 before coming to the UK to complete his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in Psychiatry. In 2008, he became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych).
His passion for education and academic excellence led him to pursue a Master's in Medical Education from Staffordshire University, and he has also been awarded the Fellowship of the Indian Psychiatric Society.
As the world population continues to age, there is an increasingly high demand for supported care in the community. Dr Khan decided to participate in an innovative six-month MDT pilot project in Birmingham, which he completed in 2010, earning second place in the BSMHFT Board Challenge Awards. He also led a similar MDT project in care homes in Sandwell with the goal of reducing antipsychotic use in favour of non-pharmacological management.
