About Dr Yohan Samarasinghe
I am an experienced London brought up and trained Consultant (Imperial College, London) working in a well renowned large district general hospital in Surrey. My certificates of specialist training were obtained in Clinical Pharmacology and General Internal Medicine with a specialist interest in Diabetes. I obtained a postgraduate higher degree in Diabetes from King's College London and thus it is my primary speciality, but I also maintain an interest in the management of Hypertension (high blood pressure) and Lipids (high cholesterol and other fats). I am Clinical Lead for Acute Medicine at Frimley Park Hospital, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and an integral part of the Diabetes team, where I contribute to specialist diabetes clinics and the DAFNE training programme. I have a separate blood pressure clinic. Half my time is spent managing medical patients at the front door of the hospital, both in the Emergency Department (ED)as well as in the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AECU), where I get ample opportunity to maintain my clinical skills. I lead on Clinical Governance in the Department of Medicine (ensuring practices are optimized and continually improved) as well as being chair of the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee within the hospital and reperesenting the hospital for the drugs formulary for our Integrated Care System (ICS). Both the active clinical work and the management tasks, which largely focus on scrutiny and safety, help me no end in the medicolegal work that I also undertake from time to time. Most of my private work is carried out in the Parkside Suite at Frimley Park, but I can utilise the private outpatients of Frimley's sister hospitals, Wexham Park and Heatherwood. I also have admitting rights at the Spire Clare Park private hospital in Crondall, Hampshire if that is convenient. My private work is either carried out on a Wednesday morning or after 1830hrs on a weekday.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
