Shefali graduated from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School in 1999 with Honours. She trained in dermatology at Barts Health, The Royal Free Hospital and St John's Institute of Dermatology. In 2010 she was appointed Honorary Consultant in Dermatology at Barts Health NHS Trust and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University London.

Shefali has an interest in skin cancer and is the skin cancer lead at her hospital. She sees urgent skin cancer referrals and works within a multidisciplinary team.

As well as her clinical work Shefali is actively involved in research and medical education. She received a research grant from the British Skin Foundation and was awarded an MD (Res) for research into harlequin ichthyosis and genetic skin disease. Shefali gained the Postgradualte Diploma in Medical Education and is course director for the international Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dermatology at QMUL and also plays an active role in undergraduate teaching. She has a number of peer reviewed publications.
