About

Early on in his career, Dr Salman Karim was attracted to Psychiatry due to his fascination with brain development and the lack of proven scientific discoveries in the field. He initially trained in Adult Psychiatry in 2003, and then began training in Old Age Psychiatry three years later. He currently works as a Consultant Psychiatrist within the Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and acts as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Over his many years of training and clinical work, he has developed a strong belief in the holistic approach to the treatment of mental conditions across all age groups.

He thoroughly enjoys clinical work due to the variety of patients that he has the opportunity to interact with, and the gratification of improving their quality of life. Dr Karim is passionate about developing medical research for cognitive disorders including Alzheimer's Disease, as he views this as one of the biggest challenges for current and future generations. He has contributed to research in this field, publishing papers on the quality of life of patients with dementia, the mini-mental state examination and mild cognitive impairment.
