About Prof Michael Papadakis
Professor Michael Papadakis is a revered consultant cardiologist in London who specialises in sports cardiology, preventive cardiology, inherited cardiac conditions, heart failure, and cardiac MRI. He is also an honorary consultant cardiologist at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a professor of cardiology at St George's, University of London and a consultant cardiologist for Lanserhof at The Arts Club based in Mayfair, London. He has a stellar educational background including an MBBS degree from Imperial College London and an MD (Res) from Kings College London. He was awarded a fellowship with the European Society of Cardiology in 2016 and a fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians in 2021. Using his vast experience and expertise, Professor Papadakis has contributed to numerous educational and research projects, such as the creation of the European curriculum for the study of sports cardiology and preventive cardiology, the creation of the ECG criteria for evaluating athletes, and the guidelines for participation in sport and exercise of individuals with heart disease. He launched an MSc degree in Sports Cardiology in 2016, the first such postgraduate qualification in the UK. Professor Papadakis served as the chair of the sports cardiology and exercise section of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology between 2018-2020 and Is currently the president of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology. He is consultant to the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, screening more than 30,000 young individuals per year for heart disease, and is a consultant cardiologist to the Rugby Football Union, English and Wales Cricket Board and English Institute of Sport. Professor Papadakis is currently credited with more than 150 peer-reviewed medical publications. He regularly presents as an expert speaker at national and international conferences.
