About Mr Matthias Radatz
Mr Matthias Radatz is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and the Director and Lead Clinician of the National Centre for Gamma Knife Radiosurgery in Sheffield. Mr Radatz has developed specialist expertise in spinal and complex spinal surgery (image-guided and assisted) and stereotactic radiosurgery, with a treatment portfolio comprised of over 3,500 treatments including specialist expertise in treating even rare conditions utilising all models of the Gamma Knife. He is IRMER trained, with extensive radiation protection training for diagnostic and treatment purposes (including linac accelerator specifics) and he has been fully trained in the use and utilisation of the Gamma Knife and Cyberknife for the treatment of cranial and extra-cranial CNS lesions (including spinal metastasis). Mr Radatz studied Medicine at the "Free University of Berlin", undertaking Neurosurgical Training at Krankenhaus Neukölln in Berlin and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. Here Mr Radatz's interest in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery was established. After his return to Berlin, he completed his neurosurgical training in May 1997, continuing as Facharzt. In October 1997, Mr Radatz moved to the Neurosurgical Unit in Oxford, UK to further his training in particular in Functional Neurosurgery and more complex Skull Base Surgery. Mr Radatz was appointed to his current position as Consultant Neurosurgeon in May 1999 in Sheffield. Mr Radatz has been Lead Clinician from 2002 for over five years and was appointed by the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery as Program Director for the Sheffield/Hull rotation. Additionally, he has been appointed to serve as Member of the SAC in neurosurgery.
