Dr Martin Drage
About
Mr Drage completed his initial surgical training in Cambridge, working for Sir Roy Calne who is a pioneer of transplantation. He then spent four years researching the immune system, tolerance and T cell biology in the laboratory of Anne Cooke. Following this, he undertook further training in general surgery, kidney, liver, pancreas and small bowel transplantation at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Dr Drage then spent a year at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, where he trained in living donor kidney and liver surgery, paediatric transplantation
He is actively involved in research, particularly manipulation of the immune system to improve transplant outcomes. He is currently investigating manipulation of the innate immune system to reduce ischaemic-reperfusion injury of transplanted organs.
