About
Dr. Ridgewell's main field is the management of soft tissue and overuse injuries, with specialisation in the prevention and management of these injuries all over the body, as well as rehabilitation.
In 2010, Dr. Ridgewell became the first doctor in Wales to be appointed to the GMC Specialist Register in Sport and Exercise Medicine. He has worked at international level across a wide variety of sports including:
• Tennis - Tournament Players' Physician WTA Birmingham Classic 2013 to present
• Tennis - Tournament Players' Physician The Championships Wimbledon 2023
• Tennis - Lead Doctor to the LTA National Tennis Academy, Loughborough University
• Rugby Union: professional and international level 1991-2016 (Swansea RFC, Ospreys, Scarlets, Wales Under-18, under-21 and Wales A teams)
• international football (Football Association of Wales Chief medical officer and team doctor 2005-2012)
• Welsh Athletics
• Swim Wales
• International and county cricket (ECB lead doctor 2000-2003),
• Welsh Hockey
• Super League and international netball
• professional cycling (JLT Condor, Team Storey Racing, and Welsh Cycling)
• Triathlon
• Welsh Gymnastics
• Lead Consultant Sports Physician to the High-Performance Unit at Sport Wales from 2003-2020 and acted as Sports Physician to Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games three times between 2006 and 2014.
Annually he works with elite women's tennis as Players' Physician at the Birmingham Classic WTA Premier Tournament.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Ridgewell has gained vast experience in the management of sports injuries, specialising in the non-surgical treatment of soft tissue injuries affecting muscles, tendons and ligaments, particularly relating to exercise. Importantly, he completely understands the significant effects that injury can have on a normal day to day life and very much encourages physical activity in his treatment plans.
Dr. Ridgewell is married with four daughters and 1 son.
