Dr Newman has an interest in the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers, including chemotherapy administration (leukaemia, myeloma, lymphoma), anaemia, iron deficiency, and bleeding disorders.

Dr Newman is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists. He trained at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in London and has worked all over the South East of England. He undertook specialist training in haematology at King's College Hospital.
Dr Newman has previously been a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission and has been involved in the training of new haematologists via the London Deanery and the Royal College of Pathologists. He has also authored a number of textbook sections on haematology and was Deputy Editor for the Journal of Medical Case Reports.
Dr Newman is currently Chief of Medicine at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and was previously Chair of the East Sussex Division of the British Medical Association. He is Laboratory Director at East Sussex Healthcare, and Clinical Lead for the Sussex Pathology Network.
