Dr. Ian Arnott is an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist based at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, where he has been practising since 2003. He holds an honorary senior lecturer position at the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Arnott completed his medical training at St. Andrews and Manchester University, followed by postgraduate training in Gastroenterology in Edinburgh and UCLA, Los Angeles, USA.

As an accredited specialist in gastroenterology, Dr. Arnott manages a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diarrhoeal conditions, constipation, anaemia, and gastrointestinal bleeding. He has a special interest in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and advocates for a holistic approach to treating this condition. Dr. Arnott is also skilled in advanced endoscopic techniques, such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and video capsule endoscopy.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Arnott is actively involved in teaching and research, with a focus on audit and quality improvement in IBD. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and is engaged in clinical trials. His national roles in gastroenterology include serving as Chair of the British Society of Gastroenterology IBD section committee, Clinical Lead for IBD in the Scottish Government’s Modern Outpatients Programme, and Clinical Director of the UK IBD Audit from 2007 to 2017. He is also a member of IBD UK, the IBD registry steering group, and a physician advisor for Crohn's and Colitis UK.
