Dr. Chahal undertook his medical degree at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine, graduating in 2001, and then trained in Endocrinology and Diabetes at St Bartholomew's Hospital.
Dr. Chahal is highly active in research and in 2007 he was awarded the prestigious Medical Research Council training fellowship to undertake research in the field of pituitary tumorigenesis, resulting in several influential research papers in high impact journals. He has been awarded several national and international prizes for his research and clinical work, and written several textbook chapters. Dr. Chahal is a lead bariatric physician and manages patients before and after surgery, to reduce their risk, and to optimise the health benefits of weight loss. He is an experienced endocrinologist in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes – including obesity, thyroid, adrenal, prolactin and pituitary diseases, polycystic ovarian syndrome, diabetes, parathyroid, calcium, vitamin D and bone metabolism.
He also has an interest in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Between 2014-2022 he was the Unit Training Lead in the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (Charing Cross Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and St Mary's Hospital sites). Between 2016-2020, he was the Director of Clinical Studies at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (St Mary's Hospital site). He has been the module lead on the Obesity Medicine MSc course at Imperial College London. He has been a teacher and examiner on the Plymouth University Postgraduate Diploma course in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
