About Mrs Divya Mathews
Mrs Divya Mathews was appointed as an Eye Consultant at the Stanley Eye Unit in Abergele in 2009. She trained in general ophthalmology initially at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India. She now performs over 200 viscocanalostomies a year at the Stanley Eye Unit. She has recently published and presented her results at various meetings across the UK and internationally. She is Senior Glaucoma Consultant for North Wales and has worked to establish new models of glaucoma care across the region. She has also trained nurse practitioners to create a team to lead the development of shared care in glaucoma. She has been involved in establishing 3 Ophthalmic Diagnostic across North Wales as a part of this shared care scheme. The Glaucoma unit has 1 fellowship attracting national and international candidates. The unit has also recently acquired recognition by the Royal college of Ophthalmologists for TSC in Glaucoma. Mrs Mathews has a particular interest in teaching and training and has been responsible for conducting Wet-lab sessions for non-penetrating surgery to train other consultants across the UK (in the North at Warrington, Manchester and in the South in Surrey). Mrs. Mathews is frequently invited to give lectures on glaucoma surgery, both across the UK and internationally.
