Clinical Interests: I have been a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since August 2004 and have had Practising priveleges at The Ramsay Yorkshire Clinic since Jan 2006. I have also been Practising at the Spire Leeds Hospital Since July 2010
I have been the National Clinical Lead for Industry for the Respiratory Disorders
Speciality Group, NIHR and Strategic Clinical Lead for Industry at the
Yorkshire & Humber Clinical Research Network since 2016 .I am a member of
the National Respiratory Speciality Group at NIHR. Since 2016 in my role at
NIHR, I have overseen the growth & delivery of commercial respiratory
trials both in the UK and regionally, achieving a recruitment target of over
80% in 2019-20. I have been able to oversee the growth of commercial
Respiratory research in the UK.
I have led the Respiratory Clinical Trials unit at BIHR since 2009. This unit has grown to become one of the largest self-funded respiratory clinical trials in the UK. The unit is one of the top 5 most reliable & experienced severe asthma clinical research
units in the UK. Since 2012 I have been the chief co-ordinating investigator in
the UK for several multi-national phase 2 & 3 severe asthma and COPD
trials. The Unit has recruited several Global and European first patients into
these trials. More importantly the unit has engaged the minority ethnic
communities into clinic research taking research to the heart of the population
of the Bradford district and beyond. The unit attracts patients for its
Clinical Trials Programme from across the Yorkshire region. The unit has
well-established links with all major pharmaceutical companies as well as major
clinical trials organisations. I have a particular interest in inhalation
profiles in patients with severe asthma and COPD. My work at Bradford culminated in the Bradford
Institute of Health Research becoming one of 5 National NIHR Patient
Recruitment Centres in England in June 2020. In 2015 & 2016 I was awarded
the best Principal Investigator award for the UK for his delivery into the
commercial respiratory research portfolio by NIHR. In 2016.
In
October 2019 I was awarded the NIHR/ RCP Award for research in the Consultants
category. I am considered an International Key Opinion leader in the design and
conduct of multinational severe asthma COPD clinical trials. During the COVID
pandemic for the last 15 months I have been an active member of the NIHR Urgent
Public Health Badging committee and have played a role in overseeing the smooth
running of the urgent Covid Commercial studies in the UK. Most recently I have
been a member of the CUE-TIP committee overseeing the closing of COVID Studies
and prioritising restart of the non Covid respiratory research portfolio. I
have high level oversight of the entire respiratory trial portfolio and through
my expertise can forge greater links between NIHR and the BTS.
I am considered as an International Key opinion Leader in the design and conduct of Large Multinational COPD and Severe Asthma trials and this has lead to my expertise in delivery world class care to my asthma and COPD Patients. I also Lead the Sleep service in Respiratory Medicine in Bradford. This service is one of regional services which deliver home ventialtion to patients with OSA nad Obesity Hypoventilation
Respiratory and general internal medicine, Bronchial asthma, tuberculosis, COPD, non invasive ventilation
