About Dr David I Campbell
Dr Campbell is an experienced paediatric consultant in tertiary gastroenterology and paediatric general medicine. He is well versed in performing a wide array of endoscopic procedures including wireless capsule endoscopy. He also sees children who have chronic diarrhoea or constipation, nutritional or allergy problems, immunological problems or abdominal pain. Within his role of acute medicine, he also cares for children with suspected epilepsy, faints, chest symptoms, growth problems (failure to thrive) and chronic fatigue. Dr Campbell is a substantive NHS consultant in paediatric gastroenterologist at The Great North Children's Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and an Honorary Consultant at Sheffield Children's Hospital. Areas of special interest include gastrointestinal immunology, inflammatory bowel, eosinophilic oesophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux, neurological problems associated with intestinal function including gut dystonia. Nutrition, growth and all areas of gut function and disease. Clinics run on Thursday evenings and some Friday mornings. Endoscopy lists are Friday mornings at The Thornbury Hospital Sheffield. A fully staffed and equiped paediatric endoscopy list under general anaesthesia is carried out at The Thornbury. Gastroscopy, colonoscopy plus wireless devices such as video capsule endoscopy plus Bravo ph capsules for reflux. Children of all ages are seen. Plans for ongoing care within the NHS can be discussed and are an important part of private medicine and obtaining a second opinion. Expert medial opinions are also given for medicolegal work, within the above areas of expertise.
