About Mr Amit Patel
Mr Amit Patel is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in the West Midlands, specialising in cataract, corneal and refractive (lens and laser) eye surgery. He practices both privately and within the NHS, holding a consultant post at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, where he leads the Cataract and Corneal Service and was responsible for establishing corneal transplant surgery at the Trust following his appointment in 2011. Mr Patel graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1999 before completing his postgraduate ophthalmic training at leading teaching centres in Wales, Yorkshire and London. He was awarded the prestigious Pfizer Ophthalmic Fellowship Award by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, enabling him to pursue advanced subspecialty training in corneal transplantation and laser refractive surgery with world-renowned surgeons in Italy and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. His specialist interests include customised cataract surgery and lamellar corneal transplantation, and he has developed extensive expertise in complex corneal and cataract surgery, external eye disease, and refractive procedures. Mr Patel has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed papers, and his work has been presented widely at national and international scientific meetings, where he has also been invited to speak. In addition to his NHS role, Mr Patel runs private clinics at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull and Nuffield Warwickshire Hospital in Leamington Spa.
