About Mr Daniel Robin
Dr Daniel Robin is a Melbourne-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with extensive expertise in the management of elective and traumatic orthopaedic conditions. He has a particular subspecialty focus on lower-limb disorders, especially degenerative conditions and sports-related injuries of the hip and knee, as well as hip dysplasia and patellar stabilisation. He is an advocate of contemporary surgical techniques, including early mobilisation and rapid recovery pathways, which he applies in appropriate and motivated patients. Dr Robin achieved his MBBS with Honours from Monash University in 1998, before completing a Master of Surgery degree in 2003 at St Vincent’s Hospital under Professor Peter Choong, where he conducted research into the spread of bone tumours. He commenced Advanced Orthopaedic Training in 2006 and, after completing his Fellowship in 2009, was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Northern Hospital and Maroondah Hospital in 2010. To further his expertise, Dr Robin undertook two years of advanced subspecialty training in the United Kingdom. In 2011 he completed a prestigious fellowship at University College London Hospital under Professor Fares Haddad and Johan Witt, two of Europe’s leading hip surgeons. There he honed his skills in hip arthroscopy, complex and revision hip replacement, and minimally invasive peri-acetabular osteotomy (MIS PAO) for hip dysplasia. During this time, he was first introduced to the Direct Anterior Approach for hip replacement, a technique he has since studied further through additional research and training. In 2012, Dr Robin trained at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol under internationally recognised surgeons Professor Ashley Blom, Robert Spencer, Andrew Porteous and Jonathan Eldridge. This fellowship further developed his expertise in hip arthroscopy, primary and revision total hip replacement, primary and revision total knee replacement, knee ligament reconstruction, and advanced patello-femoral stabilisation techniques. His current clinical practice includes hip arthroscopy for femoro-acetabular impingement and hip dysplasia, knee arthroscopy, knee ligament reconstruction, and meniscal surgery. He performs primary and complex total hip replacements, including patient-specific and 3D modelled procedures, as well as revision hip surgery. In the knee, he undertakes robot-assisted unicompartmental replacements, total knee replacements using customised 3D models, revision procedures, and patello-femoral stabilisation surgery such as medial patello-femoral ligament reconstruction and tibial tubercle osteotomy. Dr Robin also has a strong interest in medical education. He has taught anatomy at Monash University, continues to train undergraduate students, orthopaedic surgical trainees, GPs and physiotherapists, and contributes to the peer review process for Hip International, the official journal of the European Hip Society. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
