Having studied dentistry in Dundee and medicine in Aberdeen, Mr. McDonald completed his specialist surgical training at the Liverpool head and neck unit. He further expanded his skills through international experiences, including a stint as a visiting scholar at the Chang Gung Hospital Plastic surgery unit in Taipei, Taiwan, and was awarded the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Shanghai Head and Neck fellowship. Mr. McDonald is actively engaged in academic pursuits, particularly in cancer research, where he is committed to enhancing surgical outcomes and quality of life for patients. He played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Maxillofacial Trainee Research Collaborative, overseeing large-scale research projects across the UK during his training. His dedication to research has led to numerous publications, and he frequently shares his knowledge through teaching and lecturing at local, national, and international levels. Recognised for his contributions, Mr. McDonald has been honoured twice with the Scottish Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery prize.
