About Mr Atul Bagul
Mr. Atul Bagul is a highly accomplished General, Endocrine, and Transplant Surgeon with over 20 years of experience in the field. He was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2013 and has since demonstrated exceptional skills as a laparoscopic surgeon, particularly in handling complex laparoscopic cases. With an extensive background in Renal Transplant, General, and Endocrine surgery, Mr. Bagul has performed nearly 1,000 laparoscopic procedures, including intricate cases such as donor nephrectomies and incisional hernias. As a General Surgeon, he excels in performing various laparoscopic procedures, including hernia repair (groin, incisional, and recurrent cases), cholecystectomies, and the surgical management of lumps and bumps. In the field of Endocrine Surgery, Mr. Bagul completed a specialised fellowship in Sheffield, further enhancing his expertise in surgeries related to thyroid and parathyroid diseases, including cancer. He actively contributes to the cancer core Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within the NHS, ensuring comprehensive and well-rounded care for his patients. Mr. Bagul serves as the Head of Transplant Service and acts as the East-Midlands representative for the Kidney Advisory Group (KAG). He leads the live donor surgery program at UHL and is highly proficient in performing complex laparoscopic donor surgeries, renal transplants, and vascular access procedures. His outstanding skills in this area have led him to mentor Consultant Surgeons in London who require guidance in complex laparoscopic donor surgery. Mr. Bagul's contributions to the medical field extend beyond his clinical practice. He holds an Honorary Associate Professorship at the University of Leicester and serves as an educational supervisor for specialist trainees and junior doctors, nurturing the next generation of medical professionals. Recognised for his exceptional patient care and contributions to the field, Mr. Bagul received the National Excellence Award for Excellence in Delivering Patient Care in February 2021 from NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)/British Transplant Society (BTS). Additionally, he was honoured with a Caring at its Best Award by UHL in April 2021. Mr. Atul Bagul is an esteemed member of professional organisations such as the Royal College of Surgeons, England, the British Association of Endocrine & Thyroid Surgery (BAET's), the British Transplant Society (BTS), the European Transplant Society (ESOT), the British Medical Association (BMA), and the Medical Defence Union (MDU).
