About

Mr. Ashok Ram is a Consultant Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, specialising in general paediatric surgery with subspecialties in neonatal, thoracic, and upper gastrointestinal surgery. His extensive training across major paediatric centres in the UK led to his achievement of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in paediatric surgery, after which he joined the Norwich team.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Mr. Ram is deeply invested in medical education. He serves as an Honorary Associate Professor at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, and holds multiple roles, including Regional Training Director and Director of Advanced Paediatric Life Support. He is also actively involved in teaching surgical skills through the Royal College of Surgeons of England, particularly in advanced paediatric and emergency resuscitative courses. As an executive member of the European Society of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons' Education Committee, Mr. Ram contributes to the advancement of paediatric surgical training globally. He founded and directs SPRINT, an International Paediatric Surgical Training Programme, providing educational resources for paediatric surgeons and trainees worldwide.

His contributions to paediatric surgery have been recognised with the prestigious Gold Medal from the European Board of Paediatric Surgery, and he has been nominated for numerous awards by both patients and students. In his private practice, he treats a variety of paediatric and neonatal conditions, including abdominal pain, acid reflux, congenital malformations, chest deformities, gastrointestinal conditions, hernias, hydrocele, laparoscopy, and neonatal surgery, among others.

Mr. Ram’s commitment to paediatric surgery extends beyond clinical practice, as he consistently contributes to the academic field through his presentations at national and international conferences and publications in paediatric surgical textbooks and journals.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
