Dr Singanayagam currently sees both NHS and private patients. He specialises in all aspects of respiratory medicine (any condition or symptom affecting the lungs/breathing). This includes asthma, COPD/emphysema, lung infections (acute and chronic), post COVID19 respiratory problems, bronchiectasis, sleep disorders, pneumonia, tuberculosis and allergic lung disease.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, Dr Singanayagam also leads a translational research group which studies the lung's immune system with the aim of developing new therapies for respiratory diseases. He has been awarded >£4 million in research funding including a recent ~£1.9 million grant by the Medical Research Council to study the role played by viruses in promoting flare-ups of the lung condition bronchiectasis. Dr Singanayagam has received prestigious investigator awards from the British Thoracic Society (BTS), the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. He sits on the Editorial Board of The European Respiratory Journal and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and has published over 100 papers to date with a H index of 52.
