About
Mr. Kidess has made significant contributions to University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), particularly in addressing capacity challenges in both medical and surgical retina care. He serves as the Lead of the Vitreoretinal Service at UHB and heads the supra-regional Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) service. Additionally, he is the Clinical Laser Protection Supervisor for the department, ensuring safety and quality standards in laser procedures.
Believing that excellence in eye surgery is achieved through a blend of education and experience, Mr. Kidess pursued comprehensive training as an ophthalmologist, followed by two fellowships in Medical Retina at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and two more in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Western Eye Hospital in London. His commitment extends beyond clinical practice to medical research, having published numerous articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and contributed to book chapters. Mr. Kidess is also active in sharing his expertise, presenting his work at national and international ophthalmology conferences.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
