About me
I’m Alice Twomey, a specialist gastroenterology dietitian at The Gut Health Clinic, supporting adults with digestive conditions and gut-related health concerns. I bring over eight years of clinical experience across the NHS, including specialist roles within a large London teaching hospital, where I developed expertise in managing gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.
How I can help you
I support people dealing with ongoing digestive symptoms, bowel diseases and disorders, including those that haven’t improved with standard or overly restrictive advice.
My areas of expertise include:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
Coeliac disease
Bile acid malabsorption (BAM)
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
Disorders of gut–brain interaction
Orofacial granulomatosis
I also support individuals with:
Bloating, reflux, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea
Pelvic floor dysfunction and related digestive symptoms
Weight management, including post bariatric surgery support
Nutritional deficiencies and malnutrition
Women’s health, including endometriosis and menopause
My approach
I take a holistic, evidence-based approach, recognising that digestive symptoms are often influenced by a combination of physiological, dietary and lifestyle factors.
Rather than applying one-size-fits-all or overly restrictive approaches, I focus on understanding your symptoms in the context of your medical history, lifestyle and relationship with food. From there, we build a structured, personalised plan that supports symptom relief while improving long-term gut health.
A key part of my work is helping you improve your relationship with food and feel more confident managing your symptoms day to day.
My experience
I have spent the majority of my clinical career working within a large London teaching hospital, across both acute and outpatient gastroenterology services. This includes supporting patients with conditions such as IBD, IBS, coeliac disease, pelvic floor dysfunction and orofacial granulomatosis.
More recently, I have worked as a Specialist Bariatric Dietitian within the NHS, supporting individuals pre and post surgery, alongside my current role as System Wide Dietetic Lead for Prescribing.
I am FODMAP trained through King’s College London and have worked within a research-focused team, contributing to evidence-based clinical practice.
The Gut Health Clinic
I work at The Gut Health Clinic, a specialist service led by gut health scientist Dr Megan Rossi (@theguthealthdoctor). The clinic brings together a team of expert gastro dietitians with 80 years of combined clinical experience and has supported more than 5,000 clients since 2018.
We work closely with GPs, gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure your care is fully integrated and aligned with your wider medical needs.
What to expect in your first session
Your first appointment is a structured consultation where we take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals in detail.
Following this, you’ll receive a personalised plan with clear, practical steps to move forward. I’ll also guide you on how many sessions are likely to be needed so you have clarity from the outset.
If you have private health insurance (including Aviva, Bupa, Cigna, Healix, Vitality or WPA), your appointments may be covered. Get in touch and we can guide you through this.
