About

Dr Alex Riding is a Consultant Nephrologist, experienced in helping people with kidney disease of any cause. Her clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and management of kidney problems, management of chronic kidney disease, (CKD), renal transplantation, high blood pressure and renal disorders in pregnancy.

Dr Riding has a long-held interest in all aspects of Nephrology and is passionate about improving care for people living with kidney disease, but also understands that kidney disease can affect people and families in many ways. Managing kidney problems within this context is important to her practice.

Dr Riding graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2002 with a BSc in Medical sciences. She continued her medical training at the University of Cambridge (MBBChir) in 2009 and went on to training placements in London and East Anglian Deaneries, where she completed dual accreditation in Nephrology and General (internal) Medicine. Dr Riding completed a PhD investigating the role Innate Lymphoid Cells in the Renal tract at the University of Cambridge.

Dr Riding works at two teaching hospitals in North Central London, the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and University London NHS Foundation Trust. Her main inpatient practice includes general nephrology, acute transplantation and general medicine. She is the clinical lead for renal disorders in pregnancy and manages outpatient clinics in acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and hypertension.

Dr Riding is a member of the UK Kidney Association guideline committee for the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in CKD and British Association of Dermatology for skin surveillance for solid organ transplant patients.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
